local case study
United KingdomCloud Hill Wind Farm with 66MW is planned to be located next to the existing Whiteside Hill Wind Farm, approximately 3km south west of Sanquhar, in Dumfries and Galloway. The project is supported by Blue Energy.
The current proposals for Cloud Hill Wind Farm include 11 turbines with a maximum tip height of 180 m, and a battery energy storage system (BESS).
The environmental survey work at the site commenced in early 2021, and informed the preliminary wind farm design which has been the subject of a Scoping Request to the Scottish Government and consultees. Scoping and all environmental surveys have now been completed, and planning application for 11 x 180 m turbines is being prepared for submission in 2023.
Throughout the life of the project, we are committed to fully engaging with members of the local community. To date we have held one round of exhibitions, and presented the project to the Royal Burgh of Sanquhar and Kirkconnel & Kelloholm Community Councils. A second round of public exhibitions is being held in March 2023.
