BayWa r.e. celebrates launch of new Edinburgh Office

to overview

Both its award-winning services and projects businesses will operate from the new office - taking the network of BayWa r.e. offices in the UK to three.

To mark the occasion, the business hosted an opening event on 5th December, joined by employees, clients and guest speaker Chris Stark from the Committee on Climate Change.

The latest office expansion follows a string of major successes during 2019 for BayWa r.e., which saw its operated renewable energy portfolio in the UK hit the 2GW mark, the certification of its service business to ISO standards and the start of construction on the first subsidy free wind farm in the UK in Inverclyde. The total capacity of wind and solar projects constructed in the UK excelled a 500MW.

BayWa r.e.’s portfolio of renewable energy projects includes utility scale solar and wind projects across the country. Earlier in November the business sold Tralorg wind farm to RPMI Railpen, one of the largest pension funds in the UK.

Gordon MacDougall, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. UK Limited, says:

“2019 has been marked with many successes in our journey to help the UK meet its green energy goals. As part of our commitment to grow UK renewable capacity we’ve expanded our scope with the acquisition of Forsa Energy earlier this year. By 2020 we expect to have eight more wind turbines operational.”

With more than 7 GW of operated assets worldwide BayWa r.e.’s service business is also contributing significantly to the global renewable energy transition, with the UK leading the way as one of its biggest markets. In September 2019 it was nominated O&M Provider of the Year.

Stuart Beattie, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. Operation Services Limited, comments:

“Since 2017 when we began our renewable energy service in the UK, the business has gone from strength to strength through organic growth and strategic acquisitions with Becon and partnerships with global asset manager MEAG and asset owner Octopus Investments. We are proud to deliver professional services to our clients for more than 2 GW of solar and wind projects in the UK.”

Oliver Niedhöfer, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. Operation Services Limited, adds: “The setup in our new Edinburgh office will help us to drive forward strategic topics such as the digitalisation of solar and wind services and the exploration of new business models. After a very successful 2019 we are following our path of becoming the leading renewable energy service provider in the UK.”

BayWa r.e. services and projects now have close to 130 employees spread across key locations in Milton Keynes, Edinburgh and Stirling and site-based.
