BayWa r.e. success in renewable energy auctions

to overview

BayWa r.e. has secured new projects totalling over 70 MW in recent renewable energy auctions in Italy and Malaysia. And confidence is high ahead of upcoming German auctions.

The three wind projects in Italy include the 48 MW Eolica San Lupo Srl project in Campania and the 10 MW Arlena Energy Srl project and 8 MW Tessennano Energy Srl project, both located in Lazio. While in Malaysia, BayWa r.e will develop the 5 MW SBU Power Sdn. Bhd. solar plant in Perlis.

Matthias Taft, Board Member of BayWa AG with responsibility for the energy business, comments: “Auction systems will continue to become increasingly common. Specific requirements vary, but in looking for the right development partner the market favours businesses that can demonstrate comprehensive and competitive end-to-end solutions. With expertise and resource that encompasses project financing, development, construction and ongoing operations and maintenance, this plays to BayWa r.e.’s strengths and is proving key to our success.”

Following the reform of the Renewable Energy Act (EEG 2017), which took effect from 1 January 2017, Germany’s auctions begin in May with 800 MW available for tender. Followed by a further 1,000 MW in August and 1,000 MW in November.

Matthias Taff adds: “BayWa r.e. is well placed for the upcoming German auctions. As well as tendering independently, we are also keen to partner with smaller developers; for who the auction system can seem daunting and to preclude. With our resource and financial backing, we can work collaboratively to strengthen their tenders. This very much fits with our business philosophy and supporting a healthy and diverse renewable energy sector.”
