BayWa r.e. secures O&M contract with METKA EGN

to overview

BayWa r.e. has signed a two-year contract for the Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of two 5 MW solar farms on behalf of METKA EGN.

The two solar farms, located in Exeter and Swansea in the UK, are the first O&M agreements for BayWa r.e. and METKA EGN, and represent the first step towards a multi-level cooperation between the two businesses.

Ian Draisey, Managing Director, BayWa r.e. Operation Services Limited, commented: “The signing of this agreement and partnership with METKA EGN highlights BayWa r.e.’s competitive, customer focused service that sets us apart from the rest of the market. METKA EGN has an enviable track record having brought forward more than 200 MW of solar energy projects around the world. With our own global experience and presence, the two businesses fit perfectly together and this cooperation is another important element of our growth ambitions in the UK service market.”

The contract, which started at the beginning of 2018, will see BayWa r.e. provide a comprehensive range of preventative and corrective operations and maintenance services to ensure the plants operate at peak efficiency. Another area where BayWa r.e. stood apart from the competition was its outstanding health and safety record. Together with its highly trained technicians, this was particularly important for METKA EGN.

Lefteris Pliakos, Managing Director, METKA EGN, commented: “This agreement with BayWa r.e. represents an important new collaboration for us. For METKA EGN safe working practices are of the utmost importance and we were particularly impressed with BayWa r.e.’s professionalism and HSE standards. We are looking forward to working together in the UK and on future projects across our markets.”

BayWa r.e. Operation Services Limited has been enjoying sustained growth with the METKA contract following a competitive tender win to operate and maintain a 30 MW solar portfolio owned by Good Energy and a 153 MW solar portfolio owned by Orion NRG in 2017. BayWa r.e. now has more than 965 MW under management across solar and wind in the UK.
