BayWa r.e. granted planning permission for Perrinpit Road

to overview

BayWa r.e., in partnership with energy development company Grüne Energien Solar GmbH, has received planning permission for the development of the Perrinpit Road Solar Farm project in South Gloucestershire, UK.

After its completion, the 49.9MW project would provide enough energy to supply 15,000 family homes with green, renewable electricity. Construction is expected to commence in early 2024 and the solar farm is planned to be operational later that year.

Within the development of Perrinpit Road, BayWa r.e. is committed to maximising benefits for local communities and the environment. As part of this commitment, 30 acres of new wildflower meadow and grassland will be planted to create a continuous green corridor running through the site to enhance biodiversity and create habitats for wildlife. Other environmental initiatives will also include planting new wildflowers and a grass mix underneath and around the solar panels, as well as approximately 1,700 metres of new hedgerow and 99 new trees within the site boundary.

Perrinpit Road Solar Farm will create up to 20 jobs throughout the construction period, as well as up to three long term jobs throughout the operational life of the project.

John Milligan, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. UK Limited, commented: “This is an exciting project for our team at BayWa r.e. and we are delighted to work with Grüne Energien again. This is our second 49.9MW project in the UK delivered through our joint venture. The implementation of renewable energy projects like Perrinpit Road is essential to meeting the UK’s legally binding net zero carbon emission goals by 2050. It is encouraging to see the local commitment in South Gloucestershire to meet these goals.”

Marco Pannicke, Managing Director of Grüne Energien Solar GmbH, commented: “This is a great achievement and shows the spirit of our joint venture with BayWa r.e. There are many more projects in the pipeline and it is an honour for us to develop renewable energy projects in the UK.”

The project is expected to increase South Gloucestershire Council’s renewable energy generating capacity by almost 30 %. Across the country, BayWa r.e. UK has a number of similar projects progressing through the planning system and hopes to build on the success seen with Rag Lane and Perrinpit solar projects.
