Gary Carroll joined us as an engineering graduate and embraced the chance to learn about the many aspects of project engineering within BayWa r.e. in Ireland. His journey highlights our commitment to nurturing the next generation of renewable energy professionals and providing hands-on experience that makes a real impact.

A Journey of Learning and Leadership

Gary joined us as a Graduate Project Engineer, eager to gain hands-on experience in the fast-evolving renewable energy sector. From day one, he was immersed in every stage of project delivery: from initial site screening for solar, wind, and storage projects to preparing detailed designs for planning applications, which was underpinned with a robust blended learning onboarding plan. This practical exposure gave Gary a strong foundation in project engineering principles and the confidence to make informed technical decisions.

Through regular one-to-one mentoring sessions with one of our Project Engineers, Gary grew from a graduate into a trusted team member, taking on increasing responsibility and working independently on complex tasks.

Technical Expertise & Beyond

Gary became highly proficient in PVCase and PVSyst, essential tools for solar design, and took the initiative to arrange his own training in WindPro, a leading wind project analysis software. Today, Gary is the lead WindPro user within our engineering team in Ireland, producing accurate, efficient designs and even supporting his UK colleagues on wind projects. Beyond technical skills, Gary demonstrated exceptional collaboration, attention to detail, and a genuine passion for renewable energy. These qualities have prepared him well for his next chapter: transitioning into the role of Project Engineer.

Why this Matters

Here is what Gary has to say about his experience:

''Over the past two years at BayWa r.e., I got to work with a talented team across wind and solar projects. During this time, I've built technical expertise, strengthened my problem-solving and communication skills, and developed an understanding of renewable energy projects from concept to reality. I am grateful to my colleagues for their constant support, guidance, and mentoring throughout this journey. I'm excited for what's ahead and look forward to continuing to contribute to the team.''

Gary’s journey reflects what we stand for at BayWa r.e: empowering people to grow, innovate, and lead in the renewable energy sector. Congratulations, Gary! We are excited to see what you achieve next.
