Community Benefit

The offer of community benefit, usually paid at a rate of £5000 per megawatt per annum, is a central plank of the Scottish Government’s good practice principles for onshore wind farm development, and for the North Lowther proposal this could equate to £750,000 per year depending on the final installed capacity.  NLEI has committed to paying community benefit during the operational life of the scheme and consultation has been undertaken with the local community to discuss how the community benefit could be administered and the benefits it could help deliver.

In addition, NLEI has offered the opportunity to participate in shared ownership of the scheme in line with Scottish Government Good Practice Principles for Shared Ownership of Onshore Renewable Energy Developments.
