Paying our success forward

BayWa r.e.’s community investments – global, local, sustainable

As a company that is active in the field of renewable energy around the world, we value sustainability and responsible practices first and foremost. Beyond the support we offer our customers in innovating in the field of renewable energy, we commit to contributing globally to a collective energy transition.

But more than this, acting sustainably is part of our culture and DNA. Learn about some of the ways we have demonstrated our commitment to a wide range of sustainable projects and initiatives around the world:

Supporting the "Smart Biogas Network" in Tanzania

Whether intended for home cooking or small agricultural operations, biogas is an affordable energy source that presents no health risk. Biogas has already been firmly integrated into Tanzania's off-grid energy supply. As a partner in the "Smart Biogas Network" project, BayWa r.e. supports plants in their ongoing operations and ensures a reliable source of energy that is helping sustain communities and make a real difference in people’s day-to-day lives.

Charity project for the "All Tribes" school in California, USA

We have applied our expertise in designing and developing solar farms to support the "All Tribes American Indian Charter School" in California, a school dedicated to the special socio-economic and cultural needs of Native American communities in San Diego. In addition to designing, developing and erecting a 25-kW solar photovoltaic system, we have also produced teaching material focusing on renewable energy for the local students and teachers.

"Fair Wind Energy in Thuringia" Award

In May 2017, BayWa r.e. was awarded the "Fair Wind Energy in Thuringia" seal of approval by the Thuringia Energy and GreenTech Agency (ThEGA) for our efforts in sustaining local infrastructure as well as developing renewable energy. The seal is evidence of our voluntary commitment to the guidelines for the ethical development of wind energy in the state of Thuringia, Germany, which include: the proactive involvement of all interest groups affected by the project, transparent handling of information, and the inclusion of regional energy suppliers and credit institutions.

BayWa Foundation

Honouring our responsibility to the disadvantaged

The BayWa Foundation has been supporting national and international sustainable educational projects since it was established in 1998. The Foundation specifically funds education initiatives in the fields of nutrition and renewable energy and gives us the unique opportunity to fund projects in education. We believe that education is the best way to enable people to help themselves in the long term and to give the disadvantaged futureproof development opportunities.

What makes the Foundation particularly unique is that 100 percent of the donations we receive flow directly into community projects. Not only does BayWa AG, our parent company, cover all of the administration costs, it also matches every donation – so that every contribution is worth twice its sum.
