BayWa r.e. places first UK wind turbine order with Vestas
Following the purchase of the consented Fraisthorpe wind farm in the East Riding of Yorkshire in November 2014 BayWa r.e. is celebrating an UK double first – placing the company’s own first UK order for Vestas turbines as well as the first ever order placed in the UK market for the V112 - 3.3MW hardware.
Since officially opening its UK head office in Edinburgh late last year the BayWa r.e UK team has further extended the company’s activities in the acquisition and development of onshore projects. Once built, the Fraisthorpe project will bring the company’s UK portfolio of constructed wind capacity to over 100 MW.
Matthias Taft, CEO of BayWa r.e. commented: “The continued growth and success of our UK renewable energy business is a core strategic objective for the BayWa r.e. group. We are extremely pleased to have achieved this milestone with Vestas and look forward to many years of outstanding performance at Fraisthorpe. BayWa r.e. looks forward to bringing the project into commercial operations in early 2016 and our recent order with Vestas means we are one step closer to realising Fraisthorpe’s important contribution to low carbon electricity supply.”
Fraisthorpe Wind Farm is a 9 turbine development located south of Bridlington in East Riding of Yorkshire. The development will see the installation of V112-3.3MW hardware, with a total capacity of 29.7MW. Activity on site is likely to commence in March 2015, with the commercial generation forecast for mid-2016. The site is anticipated to generate electricity for 25 years and will support a community benefit fund, the terms of which will be finalised over the coming months.
