BayWa r.e. has sold the PV farm Supernova in England to CEE, an associated company from Hamburg. BayWa r.e. will continue to operate the solar farm which generates up to 18.5 megawatts (MW).

In total, BayWa r.e. has established five solar farms in Great Britain so far. BayWa r.e. undertook all stages of the development for the solar farm Supernova near Bicester, not far from Oxford. These services ranged from initial planning to turnkey construction and connection to the grid, which was accomplished in November 2013. BayernLB financed this plant. Supernova transferred into CEE ownership at the end of September. Matthias Taft, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. remarked: "Supernova is our second project so far which we sold successfully to CEE, and we're very happy to continue our involvement by managing its operation well into the future, too." BayWa r.e. has been instructed by CEE to manage the technical and commercial operations of the site. This autumn, TÜV-SÜD accredited the Operations Management department of BayWa r.e. to ISO 9001:2008 standard, for its quality management system.

"For its entry into the British market, CEE has found an experienced and financially sound partner in BayWa r.e., whose competence and methodology perfectly match CEE and their requirements", explained Detlef Schreiber, CEE's managing director. The Supernova PV farm generates around 17.5 million kWh of electricity annually, enough to supply approximately 3500 four-person households. Polycrystalline modules and central inverters were deployed at this plant. Currently, solar power in Great Britain is remunerated in a combination of ways, including the electricity rate, the 1.6 ROC (Renewable Obligation Certificates) system, and other benefits.

The UK is one of the core markets for BayWa r.e.'s renewable energy business. So far, the company has built solar and wind farms with a total output of around 140 MW in Britain. Further projects are currently under construction or at the planning stage.
